Quando toda a informação chega ao cérebro, ele avalia se lhe agrada ou não, se o rejeita ou o aceita”, explica David Bueno i Torrens, biólogo e pesquisador de genética na Universidade de Barcelona.

Quando o cérebro, depois de analisar toda essa informação delicada, diz sim, em décimos de segundo começa a segregar uma série de neurotransmissores (substâncias químicas que fazem a comunicação entre neurônios), e os protagonistas do beijo começam a perceber seus efeitos. “O que notamos de todas estas reações químicas depende do tipo de neurotransmissor, da porcentagem ou balanço entre eles e dos neurônios sobre os quais atuam”, indica David Bueno. Quer dizer, dependendo de qual deles predomine, sentiremos alguns efeitos ou outros. O especialista descreve quatro neurotransmissores básicos despertados pelo beijo: dopamina, que nos faz sentir prazer e bem-estar; serotonina, com a qual sentimos excitação e otimismo, embora também possa ter um efeito de raiva e agressão (“nesse caso, há a rejeição ao par”, salienta Bueno); epinefrina, que aumenta a frequência cardíaca, o tônus muscular e o suor, por isso sentimos calor e a aceleração do coração; e a oxitocina, que gera afeto e confiança.

Mas além disso, outras substâncias são liberadas, como o óxido nítrico, que relaxa os vasos sanguíneos, provocando um aumento no fluxo sanguíneo no pênis e, portanto, a ereção. Ou a feniletilamina, “uma anfetamina potente e rápida que estimula o sentimento de prazer, por isso o primeiro beijo dos adolescentes costuma ser mais intenso e apaixonado”, explica Jesús de la Gándara, chefe de Psiquiatria do Hospital Universitário de Burgos e autor do livro El Planeta de los Besos (o planeta dos beijos). O psiquiatra destaca que não acontece somente com os adolescentes. Segundo Gándara, também pode ocorrer em adultos. “A chave está em encontrar a pessoa que desperte esse neurotransmissor.”

Só que a paixão não é eterna. A química do beijo parece mudar com o passar do tempo dentro de uma mesma relação. Embora nem todos os casais façam a passagem do primeiro estágio para o segundo”, esclarece. O psiquiatra Jesús de la Gándara destaca inclusive que há uma mudança na química cerebral: “no início da relação há grande estimulação hormonal com predomínio dos andrógenos (testosterona) e da dopamina, mas com o passar do tempo muda, com mais estímulo à vasopressina e à oxitocina; beijam-se com menos frequência e intensidade, mas de maneira mais carinhosa e estável”. Algo que parece confirmar estudo realizado na Universidade Bar llán, em Israel, que mostrou o importante papel da oxitocina, o hormônio que gera afeto, nas relações estáveis.

Não se pode esquecer que pelo beijo também dividimos enfermidades, por exemplo a mononucleose (também conhecida como doença do beijo, muito comum em adolescentes). De fato, em cada beijo de 10 segundos intercambiamos 80 milhões de bactérias, segundo pesquisa feita na Holanda. Isso significa que é ruim beijar? “Não, beijar é bom. Há estudos que mostram que as pessoas que beijam mais vivem mais, porque tudo que há à sua volta é positivo (companhia, ajuda, apoio emocional).
